December is when most major brands introduce their latest ad campaign. Paid media purchase increases and competition is at its highest point. Having a creative, catchy and emotional campaign that resonates with the audience and boosts sales before the year-end is every brand’s goal.
2020 was unlike any other year we have experienced. It’s interesting to see how different brands have embraced this year’s challenges and what changes they have made to their advertising strategies.
Below, we have gathered some of our favourite ads that were published this month.
Let us know if you agree with our selections and comment if we need to include any others to the list.
PURE SH*T
To see some good, grow from 2020
Pure Sh*t is a purpose-driven initiative that Agency Gen C in Australia has put together to “see some good, grow from the year 2020.” It is also pure genius!
Pure Sh*t is a completely organic, dry, odourless manure that will help your gardens and plants grow and the best part of it is that 100% of profits are given to those deeply affected by the events of this year.

BUMBLE UK
When Dating Met 2020.
Bumble UK put together a Holiday ad campaign with the help of Helena Bonham Carter, and we STAN!
They described 2020 as the year parks became pubs, and kissing was basically illegal.
This humorous video is a creative way to bring attention to the challenges many face while dating in 2020 and show that they are not experiencing it alone.
Please have a look and let us know what you think.
STENA RECYCLING X ELECTROLUX
While we socially distanced, some joined forces
Electrolux is partnering with Stena Recycling in the collaboration Circular Initiative.
”The first concrete result is a visionary vacuum cleaner made of 100 percent recycled plastic and reused components from electronic consumer products.”
We are not only are a fan of 100% recycled products, we are also a big fan of talking vacuums.
It appears this product is not available for purchase yet. We can’t wait to see the price tag on it when it is launched.

PEPSI and Burger king
WHEN BIG INTERNATIONAL BRANDS SUPPORT LOCAL
Pepsi has done something a little different for their holiday campaign this year.
This year’s campaign is a tribute to New York’s bodega owners. A bodega is a 24/7 variety store similar to what we call a convenient store in Ontario or a dépanneur in Quebec.
In 2020, owners rose to the task of staying open and keeping the city going during a critical time.
Pepsi’s latest holiday campaign, spotlights, gives back to, and thanks bodegas owners for their commitment and service in 2020 to have kept the city going during a challenging time.
Pepsi is not the only internationally recognizable name brand giving back to their local community this holiday season.
On Monday, Burger King UK announced on their social media platforms that they would be highlighting various local restaurants across the country on their Instagram account with the hashtag #WhopperAndFriends.
Burger King UK will share the local restaurants’ signature dishes daily to their 33,000 followers to bring awareness to these small businesses until they can re-open their doors again.
WORLD WILD LIFE FUND
When Some realities remain the same even in 2020
S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications has put together a series of print advertising for WWF.
In these pieces, students of S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications re-created the popular and familiar Disney movie posters of Finding Nemo, The Jungle Book and The Lion King in a not so magical way.
The sad reality of what has happened to many endangered species in the last century and what we will face if the trend continues is captured perfectly in these images. You will also find a short description of the scary reality our wildlife is facing at the bottom of each poster.
